"It's not ours. It's just our turn." Doug Duren

That's a quote from friend of MeatEater's Steven Rinella. Simple words but it sums up what conservation is to me. All of us doing our part to make sure that the outdoors are to be cared for. That's why I support the mission of orgnaizations that focus on the goal of making nature a better, cleaner place every day. As a hunter and angler there is so much we can easily do.

Did you know: every year used fishing line and tackle account for 70% of the microplastics in water. Discarded fisherman related trash is one of most common things I find while walking shorelines.

That’s why I became a Wild Keeper and got involved with the company Keep Nature Wild. While they focus a lot on general trash clean up every where from national parks to your local hiking trails and even nighborhood. The mission still applies to all of us that enjoy the outoors.

Go check out @keepnaturewild and I encourage you to be a steward of the land and the water too.

Few things I do that you can easily do to help clean up:

  • Always carry a small bag with you when hiking, hunting, fishing or any other outdoor activity. It can be just a simple bag you got from a grocery store.

  • If you see some trash pick it up and put it in the bag. Keep it on you, in your boat, in your bag whatever.

  • Be safe and clean. Wear gloves if you have them (dispose of these properly too) and don’t pick something up if it’s dangerous.

  • Sort out recyclables and trash.

  • Tie up your trash bags and place them in a dumpster or take them home and place in your trash.

It’s easy and if we all did our small part we could make sure our outdoors stay wild and fun for many generations to come. Becasue like Doug said... "It's not ours, it's just our turn."
